Public Art, Artist in Residence, ArtBridge at Red Hook Houses, Brooklyn, NY

Bridging the Divide is a series of ongoing artist residencies at New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments throughout NYC. NYCHA provides affordable housing for 400,000 lower-income New Yorkers. Through this program, artists engage with residents through a variety of workshops and create artworks that empower residential narratives. The resulting exhibition is displayed in large-scale on construction fencing that surrounds the NYCHA development.

Public Art, LIC Arts Connection program at Silvercup Studios

"I am Here @44-68 Vernon Blvd, Long Island City, NY, Nov 5/2019, 8am" is a project under the Long Island City Partnership’s LIC Arts Connection program, an innovative, multi-site community arts initiative that builds non-traditional partnerships between public and private owners, local businesses, employees, students, residents, and artists.

This mural was conceived and installed by artist Harumi Ori in collaboration with Information Technology High School art club students at Silvercup Studios. The fluorescent orange and yellow mesh were woven together to create sculptures and replicas which highlighted everyday scenes captured in the Long Island City community.

We are thrilled to announce our two artists-in-residence at NYCHA's Red Hook Houses —Alden Parkinson & Harumi Ori!

They were selected by a community vote, and will work with residents to craft new artwork, which will be displayed on the miles of construction fencing that surround Red Hook Houses. This project is a part of @nyculture's #CityCanvas pilot program.⁣⁣

Special Thanks to Hokkaido Techinos’, Mr Sugai!

This artwork was sprayed with a special protective coating technology, “Line-X”. This will make the mesh material strong and keep it in the same condition for the life of the installation.

Mr. Sugai, president of Technos, in Hokkaido, Japan, kindly helped me accomplish this. His company skillfully coated this material. He told me "I respect that you have challenged yourself abroad, and I'm happy to help you". Thank you Mr Sugai! I'm very happy this technique extends my opportunities!
